Russ & Tricia: Portraits in the West Bottoms and Downtown Kansas City February 24, 2009

russtricia23

Russ surprised his girlfriend Tricia with a photo shoot for Valentine’s Day — we had big plans to surprise her with an impromptu photo shoot ON Valentine’s Day, but the flu bug had another idea for Russ… so, we rescheduled to one week later — and I’m so glad we did! The weather was bearable for February, the light was gorgeous, and the people were great! Here comes a huge blog post with all of the fun urban locations we visited.

Jeff shot this session with me, so I’ll be posting a lot of “my view” / “Jeff’s view” photos so you can see 1) how great my husband is and 2) how much fun it is to have two photographers along! :) Jeff used the wide angle lens for most of his shots during this session, and I am loving the variety it gives.

We started our session in Kansas City’s West Bottoms, which is filled with all sorts of things that make my little photographer heart so happy. Jeff and I ventured there last weekend to scope out some sweet locations for those of you interested in an artistic urban photography session… like Russ and Tricia. I LOVE these photos! Okay, on to the photos, right?! :)

This next location had so many sweet lines, patterns, grungy colors… you know, all of the things perfect for an urban-themed photo shoot! :)

Another great shot captured by my husband:

I had been eyeing this location under an overpass bridge for quite some time. We headed there next, got stuck in a dead-end while two trains passed… but we made good use of their arrival. :)

Then, we were off to Russ’ one requested spot — graffiti walls on Southwest Boulevard. You’re going to get an overload of graffiti photos here, but they’re all so cool I couldn’t narrow them down!

Tricia is just beautiful — check her out! :)

And Russ claimed to be “nervous” and “camera shy”… but really, who is he kidding? :)

The next photo is my view…

All the credit for this super-cool shot goes to Jeff:

And once again, Jeff’s (one of my favorite shots):

And, back to my view for the next few photos! :) I love this one:

Next, we drove to the library downtown for a few shots on the rooftop terrace of the Kansas City skyline. I love how this session incorporates so many different urban landscapes, and how awesome Tricia and Russ look… the whole time! Seriously. Too cute.

We wrapped up our session with a few headshots of each of them. They’re beautiful people… separately and together!

These photos are definitely going in the ericamay archives as some of my favorites. :) I love it when my clients both trust me on location suggestions (like the West Bottoms) and come with their own personal touches (like the graffiti).

Russ and Tricia, thanks SO much for really fun time. I hope these are worth all of the times of hitting “refresh” on the blog page. :) For your friends and family, send them here to sign the guestbook for your online album and they’ll be automatically notified when ALL of your photos are ready!
